COVID-19 kills four daily in Enugu State, says govt committee

The Enugu State Government on Monday has lamented that three to four people die everyday of coronavirus-related ailment in the state.

The state noted that most of the deaths were being attributed to malaria by family members.

The Chairman, Enugu State Expert Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Emmanuel Ejim, stated this while briefing journalists on the activities of the committee, adding that the state government had put stringent measures in place to contain the spread of the virus.

Ejim, a consultant cardiologist with the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, said, “Three to four people die at UNTH everyday of coronavirus-related disease. COVID-19 cases are escalating on a daily basis. I lost four patients to COVID-19 in my clinic. Many people are claiming that they have malaria. Many are dying and it is not malaria.”

While attributing the escalation of COVID-19 in the state to lack of adherence to measures put in place, Ejim said, “We encourage the government to bring the military into the enforcement. Churches should shorten the time of their service. Burials should be banned; let us survive first before we talk of burials.”
